One of the first steps in starting an Internet Marketing Business is choosing a “Domain Name”. This may seem easy enough, but there is much more to it than meets the eye. The Domain Name that you choose will have a huge impact on your overall profitability and your Internet Marketing success.

For this reason it is vital that you do the “Keyword Research” that we’ve discussed in earlier posts. If you haven’t done this yet then you should go back to my earlier posts and start doing this before you move on to the next step.

Why Use Keywords

One of the most important aspects of any successful Website is what we call SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. When someone does a search for a keyword or keyword phrase, the Search Engines display the first page of the SERPs, or Search Engine Results Pages. The higher a Website or Webpage appears in the SERPs, the more FREE Traffic that Website will usually receive.

The first step in designing a Website or Webpage for SEO is to choose a Domain Name that has certain Keywords or Keyword Phrases included in the Domain Name. Using these keywords in your domain name will have an impact on how the Search Engines index your Webpage’s and where the webpage will appear in the SERPs.

Although this will not guarantee you a top listing in the SERPS, it certainly doesn’t hurt, and honestly, when it comes to SEO you need every possible advantage you can get!

Choosing a Domain Name

If you can actually use a keyword phrase or even several keywords in your domain name, you’ll be on the right track. For instance, if I were trying to pick a domain name for Rose Gardening, my keyword research may lead me to try to get a domain with the keyword phrase: Free Rose Gardening Tips. And if the domain name was available I would name my website, FreeRoseGardeningTips.com

You’ll need to select several names that you’re interested in before we move on to the next step, because your first few options may not be available. Do some brain storming now, write some possible names down, and come back here in a few days so we can move on to the next step.
