Internet Marketing Evaluating Your Keyword Competition!
Before choosing your Domain Name, and before you decide what Keywords you want to set your site up for, you must evaluate your Keyword Competition. Successful Internet Marketing rarely happens by accident it’s carefully thought out and planned in advance!
By this time you should have already written down a list of Niches that you were interested in, did some Keyword Research for related Keywords and Keyword Phrases, and documented the results. What we are going to do now is see what the overall competition is.
Getting Started
This can be done with any of the Search Engines available, but I would recommend only doing this with the big three, Yahoo, MSN, and the Grand Daddy, Google. I don’t use anything but the Google Search Engine for this. All you’re going to do is type in a keyword or a keyword phrase and run a search for it.
What To Look For
Initially we wanting to break into the first page of the search results for these keywords. What you’ll see on the first page is the top 10 listed Websites for that Keyword or Keyword Phrase. These are the biggest Websites you’re going to be competing with if you choose that keyword.
Now look up into the right hand corner of the Webpage, directly under your toolbar, you’ll notice some numbers. It will say “Results 1-10 of about XXX”. This is the number of indexed Webpage’s that contain that keyword.
Don’t Freak Out
This may be a large number, but many of these sights aren’t seriously competing for this keyword phrase at all.
One Last thing to look at is the advertisements. If there are paid advertisements at the top of the page or on the right hand side that means someone is making money with that Keyword. And that’s a good thing.
What you’re looking for are just a few keywords that have a descent size search request from the research you did earlier, and one that doesn’t have 250 Million people competing. Make a list of these keywords, and we’ll start to cover your competition a little closer in the next step!
To Your Success!
